Overview:

The Bryain Innovation Lab is a dynamic, hands-on learning environment where students explore design thinking, sustainability, engineering, and creativity across disciplines. The Innovation Lab Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of this space by maintaining organization, preparing materials, and ensuring that tools, equipment, and resources are ready for student and community use. This is a 9-month, part-time (15-20 hours/week, with a flexible schedule during school hours) non-benefited position reporting to the Deans of the Bryan Innovation Lab.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Organization & Inventory:

o    Maintain and organize lab material, consumables, and tools across multiple spaces (marketspace, gardens, kitchen, studio, etc.).

o    Track supply levels and assist in ordering replacements when needed.

o    Keep Storage areas and workstations clean, safe, and well-labeled.

  • Preparation & Support:

o    Prepare materials, tools, and workstations for classes, workshops, and community programs.

o    Assist with setup and cleanup before and after lab sessions.

o    Provide support to students and teachers in location or using tools and materials.

o    Help maintain the organization and appearance of outdoor areas.

  • Equipment Maintenance:

o    Assist with upkeep of lab equipment, including 3D printers, lasers, cutters, hand tools, and electronics.

o    Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance tasks as directed.

o    Help ensure safe operation of all tools and machines.

  • Learning & Training:

o    Receive on-the-job training in makerspace technologies (3D printers, laser cutting, digital fabrication, etc.).

o    Support the Deans in developing documentation of signage for equipment use and safety.

o    Participate in lab projects and creative initiatives as time and interest allow.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, creative environment with varied tasks both indoors and outdoors.
  • Willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, and lift up to 25 pounds.
