The Steward School seeks Summer Camp Team Members to join our team of dedicated individuals to provide an exemplary experience for our Summer Programming participants. This is a part-time, non-benefited position reporting to the Director of Auxiliary Programs. 


This posting includes multiple positions. The Summer Experience will run approximately from May 15, 2026, until August 28, 2026. Camp hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM, with extended day care going until 6:00 PM, and shifts will vary throughout this general time frame. 


Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate for this opening will have a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and a genuine love of school-aged children.
  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree or a candidate completing Education coursework is preferred, and 1-3 years relevant experience.
  • Ensuring the physical safety and emotional well-being of campers (Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8) through active supervision and engagement. 
  • Assist with camper check-in and attendance, carpool management, and lunch supervision.
  • Distribute rosters, schedules, and other important documents to camp hosts and partner vendors. 
  • Assist with inventory and clerical duties such as organizing wristbands, nametags, camper shirts, and belongings.
  • Must be able to lift 30+ pounds (supplies, water coolers, equipment), walk across campus between buildings, and spend extended periods of time outside, even in poor weather conditions. 
  • Being a key supporter of the Spartan Counselor Apprentices’ development and training.
  • Acting as a role model by upholding Steward’s core values of honor, responsibility, and respect.
  • Maintaining a positive attitude while managing transitions, weather changes, and the high energy of a camp environment.


Qualifications

  • High motivation and enthusiasm for working with kids in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Experience working with children in a school, camp, or coaching environment preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain it prior to start date).
  • For Group Leaders: Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.


Available Positions:

1. Group Leader

The Group Leader is a senior staff role requiring advanced organizational skills and a high level of trust and leadership.

  • Responsibilities: Lead a specific cohort of campers, manage daily schedules, manage attendance, and serve as the primary point of contact for camper safety during transit.
  • Requirements: Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, as this role is required to drive a passenger vehicle to transport campers for off-campus excursions.

2. Communications Coordinator

This is a specialized administrative and office-based role within the summer program.

  • Responsibilities: Manage the "hub" of the Summer Experience. Duties include answering parent inquiries, managing camper check-in/out data, coordinating logistics between different camps, and assisting the Director of Summer Programs with daily office operations.
  • Ideal for: Individuals with strong organizational skills and a professional phone/email demeanor.

3. Cooking Camp Lead 

Specifically tasked with leading our beloved cooking program for rising 1st graders.

  • Responsibilities: Lead daily instruction of age-appropriate recipes, manage kitchen safety, and foster a love of culinary arts in young learners. Complete weekly budget and ordering sheets.
  • Requirement: Previous experience in education, group leadership, or culinary instruction preferred. Understanding of allergy needs and dietary restrictions. 

4. Cooking Camp Assistant

Support lead staff for our on-campus culinary programs.

  • Responsibilities: Assist with ingredient prep, station setup, and thorough clean-up of the kitchen facilities. Provide hands-on management and safety supervision for campers. 

5. After Care Staff

Provides essential coverage for our "Extended Day" families.

  • Responsibilities: Supervise campers from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Lead low-impact afternoon activities, manage snacks, and ensure a smooth, secure sign-out process for parents at the end of the day.

6. Camp Counselor

The "utility player" of the summer team.

  • Responsibilities: A flexible role required to perform a variety of tasks, including supervising lunch, assisting specialty instructors, leading games, managing group behavior on off-campus field trips, and supporting any camp area in need of extra hands. 

7. Teen Team (Junior Counselor)

Open to energetic students and young adults 18 and under .

  • Responsibilities: Assist senior counselors in daily activities, serve as a mentor to younger campers, and learn the foundations of childcare and responsibility. This is a developmental role for those looking to grow leadership and foundational workplace experience.
